I just wasted a few hours of my day doing some daydreaming about travel plans that I’m not going to really make. Wasted is the wrong word. The truth is that I enjoyed every single minute of planning a vacation that I’m not actually going to go on. This is my way of fantasizing I guess. Sometimes I think that planning out my travel is at least as fun as actually going on the trips.
It all started when I was checking through my email accounts and saw a newsletter from one of my favorite budget travel sites. It was advertising a variety of great travel deals. They had a big ad in the newsletter for San Diego hotel deals that were off the charts in terms of how cheap they are for this time of year. That got me daydreaming about spending a few days in a warm destination. It’s getting so chilly here now that I couldn’t help but think about how fun it would be to get away to a place with sunny beaches and warm evenings.
I have to admit that I started planning out the trip to see if it was something that we could actually do. I priced out what the vacation would costĀ if we took the whole family. I priced out how much it would cost if we left the kids at home and my husband and I took a quick little romantic getaway to San Diego. I found out how much it would cost to do different activities like whale watching. I even found the hotel (with an affordable spa) that I would like to stay at.
The reality is that I am not going to San Diego right now. Even when there are good deals, it’s not always practical to take a trip to someplace new at the drop of the hat. Besides, I did look up the weather in San Diego and it’s nice but it’s not quite as tropically warm as I was imagining! Nevertheless, I enjoyed my little mental escape. I think it’s okay to plan travel that never happens. In fact, I think it’s great. Do you?
