Finding Great Cheap Chicago Hotel Info

Okay so immediately after I wrote my first blog post I sent it over to my friend to review. If you read that post then you know that the way that this budget travel blog first got inspired was because I had helped a friend of mine find a great cheap hotel in downtown Chicago along with other cheap travel stuff. Since she was the one that inspired this blog, I wanted to get her feedback on that first post. She said that it was good but that since this blog is about budget travel and not just about me that I should probably have provided my readers with more information about the way that I found the great hotel deal.

The truth is that I don’t remember exactly which site I used to assist my friend in finding that one great hotel. What I’ve discovered as someone who likes to find the best deal on budget travel is that it’s really important to keep your eyes open for discounts from all sorts of different sources. I subscribe to budget travel newsletters, participate in groups on the subject on sites like Facebook and look through traditional travel sites to find out what the hottest deals are whenever I’m planning a trip.

So I guess that’s my first big tip here on the site – be open to finding budget travel discounts anywhere! I think that a lot of people get locked in to the habit of looking on just one or two sites to find the best deals whenever they are making their travel plans. This can cause you to overlook a lot of really great deals that are advertised on other sites. It’s always really important to do comparison shopping whenever you are trying to save money and that’s something that I definitely do when shopping for travel.

Oh and I’ve also started exploring how to use Twitter to save money on travel. I don’t know all of the ins and outs of that yet but I’m getting there. I know that you can search Twitter in real time to find deals on travel. I also know that you can follow people who post about this stuff. And their new Twitter Lists function seems like it’s going to help organize information on budget travel on the site even though I haven’t quite figured out how to use it. I’ll have to keep you posted!
