Effect of Recession on Budget Travel
I just watched a really interesting YouTube news clip about the effect that the recession has had on the budget travel industry. Hopefully it’s embedded in this post above so that you can watch it too. I have to confess that I’m still getting used to the logistics of this whole blogging thing. I’ve gotten images down but this is the first time I’ve tried to put video on this site.
Anyway, back to the video … it is from earlier this year but I’m sure that it still applies. It mentions the interesting story of a foreign woman who lost her job due to the recession. She needed to get back to her hometown because she couldn’t support herself where she had been working anymore. Of course she didn’t have any money so she needed to look into budget travel. The report is about the different airlines that are now trying to serve this niche of people.
I just think it’s interesting that these budget airlines are focusing on this part of travel. It’s kind of sad because a lot of the people who do need to get airfare deals are people who are traveling because of the loss of their jobs. Of course, those are not the only people who are traveling. Some of us are still traveling for pleasure and we just have to keep costs down as we do so we look at budget travel. Hopefully the airlines continue to recognize this and keep offering good deals even as unemployment rates start to slow down. I guess we’ll see as time goes on. Anyway, I thought it was an interesting report so I hope that you do too!
